Native Restoration Nursery
Our Native Nursery
2024 Plant List
All we have left for this season are Phormium tenax . Harakeke @ $3each
We recently took over running the small native plant nursery on the Cable Bay Adventure Park property in Hira, North Nelson. The nursery was originally set up to support the Wakapuaka Mouri Restoration Project which was a 5-year Ministry for the Environment funded project through the Freshwater Initiative Fund to help restore the Wakapuaka Valley catchment.
2024 is the final year of planting for the project. However there is still work to do! We are developing the nursery to continue to supply locally sourced restoration plants to projects specifically in the North Nelson area.
Our focus is to produce quality native plants with tight root balls for ease of planting - from locally sourced wild seed, primarily for regeneration plantings, landscaping projects and contract orders for larger projects. We are currently sowing seed for 2025 planting season. These are mostly standard native 'regen' species as well as some threatened plants and plants specific to the Wakapuaka catchment. Please let us know if there are any species in particular that you would like or have found difficult to source.
We are motivated to make the growing and planting industry much more sustainable. Our Forever Trees Nursery is off-grid and we have made a stand to avoid the use of single use plastic. We are currently re-using used plant trays and root trainers and we are trialing a tough multi-use planting tray. We are also working towards reducing the use of fossil fuel and chemicals while producing quality plants.
We would love to be able to supply plants for your project, so please get in touch if there is anything in particular we can grow for your projects or drop in to see us sometime.
